Apprentice
I’m about to go into my third year of the A-Plant Apprenticeship Scheme. A-Plant has a massive range of products, but I work mainly with our Powered Access equipment. At the moment, I check and maintain plant at the depot. But I’ll get an NVQ level III IN Plant Mechanics when I complete my apprenticeship and then I’ll be qualified to go out to sites.
All A-Plant apprentices are sent to a specialist college together. Because it’s the main training hub for the business, you get to meet lots of apprentices from other depots, which is really nice. The training is great fun and when you’ve finished, you get to go back to your depot and put what you’ve learned into practice.
My Dad first told me about A-Plant. He’s a Project Manager at a double-glazing company, so he’d worked with them a lot and was always really impressed. Needless to say, I’ve been impressed too. I think I get a lot back from them, from knowledge and experience of working on big machinery to just feeling like I’m being well looked after.
