Foreman

I used to be self-employed, but I prefer the security of working for a big company like A-Plant. I joined the workshop here about eight years ago and was promoted to Foreman a few years later.

Basically, the Foreman runs the workshop. So I organise and delegate jobs, order spare parts, update paperwork and carry out inspections for insurance companies. Our workshop deals with everything from small, handheld tools, like strimmers, to eight or nine tonne diggers and dumpers. Things seem to change every five minutes. So there’s lots of variety and no time to get bored!

A-Plant is a fantastic company to work for. The training and benefits are very good – there’s an exceptional pension scheme. But for me, it’s the little things that make it all worthwhile. For example, A-Plant supplies all of our clothing, which is pretty unusual. Other companies might just offer you a t-shirt. However, here you’re given a fleece, shoes, trousers – the lot! It just goes to show how well we’re looked after.
