Fitter

I’ve actually worked for A-Plant twice. I started in 1989, left in 1997 and came back again in 2007! In the decade between leaving and starting again, I think A-Plant has changed a lot for the better. It’s really organised and the training is excellent.

I love my job – it’s brilliant! I get to travel about 200 miles a day, all over the country. Sometimes I could be working in London, whereas other times I might be working in the countryside. In fact, I’m in my van as we speak, surrounded by lovely green fields and sunshine! I really like visiting our clients, especially our regulars. I remember one in particular, who I was visiting daily for a while. He asked me whether I would help him with some tarmacking that had to be done at 4am. I did the job and, when he told my boss how pleased he was with the result, I was made Employee of the Month.

I drove lorries for a few years on behalf of major retailers, but I prefer working at A-Plant. When I was driving lorries, I just felt like ‘the bloke who drives lorry number 46’. However, at A-Plant, there’s a real family atmosphere – everyone knows everyone!
